Background of the Study
The ongoing conflict in northeastern Nigeria, particularly in Borno State, has led to widespread destruction and displacement, severely affecting the social and economic fabric of local communities. Askira-Uba Local Government Area (LGA) in Borno has been among the most affected by insurgent attacks, resulting in extensive loss of infrastructure and livelihoods. In response to this crisis, various rebuilding efforts have been initiated by both the Nigerian government and international partners, focusing on restoring basic infrastructure, rebuilding local economies, and enhancing community resilience.
These rebuilding efforts, which include infrastructure rehabilitation, livelihood support programs, and psychosocial interventions, aim to restore the sense of security and community cohesion. However, the success of these efforts in fostering long-term community resilience remains under-researched. This study will assess the impact of rebuilding efforts on community resilience in Askira-Uba LGA, focusing on the socio-economic outcomes and the role of these efforts in promoting sustainable peace and development.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite substantial rebuilding efforts in Askira-Uba LGA, the extent to which these interventions contribute to long-term community resilience remains uncertain. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of these rebuilding programs in enhancing community resilience, reducing vulnerability to future shocks, and improving the overall well-being of residents in the region.
